ABOUT THIS WEBSITE / PROJECT
“Stop, Look, Go!” CD-ROM
Evergreen’s Website
came out of our work with Women
Acting in Today’s Society ( W.A.I.T.S. )
Domestic Violence Project which aims to tackle issues
of domestic Abuse that affect women and children from
the Chinese Community.
In January 2002 Evergreen secured funding through the
Birmingham City Council’s Commissioning Programme
for Black Artists to create an innovative bi-lingual
CD-ROM called “Stop, Look,Go!” which enabled
members of Evergreen and their children to use their
creative ideas to address issues of abuse within the
Chinese Community.
The CD-ROM looked at issues relating to conflict and
abuse within the Chinese family structure and harassment
and abuse in wider social situations .
The contents of the CD-ROM were made out of stories,
animations, poems etc. contributed by the women, young
people and volunteers of Evergreen. These were expressions
of their feelings, experiences, and skills. The targeted
beneficiaries of the CD-ROM were primarily Chinese young
people who may be victims of abuse and harassment. The
aim for the user is to find practical help and advice
in their own cultural perspective. It was launched in
August 2002 in an event attended by representatives
from many statutory and voluntary organisations, and
distributed widely to Chinese organisations around the
UK. To obtain a copy of the “Stop, Look, Go!”
CD-ROM, please contact us at the WAITS office.
Website Development
The Website project is
a follow-on from the CD-ROM project with similar aims
and objectives, supported by Home Office’s Violence
Against Initiative under the Crime Reduction Programme.
The women, volunteers and young people of Evergreen
worked hard over the last 8 months to create this website,
developing artistic and technical skills along the way.
The aim of the website
is to have a forum where Chinese women and children
who have experienced abuse can find out more about the
effects of abuse through their stories and experiences
and find information on advice and support agencies.
It is hoped that those who view the website will be
able to learn more about the effects of domestic abuse,
particularly for those within the Chinese Community
and find out more about the services available to those
experiencing domestic abuse.
Artistic and technical
support was provided by local artist Mian Har Ng who
worked with Evergreen in designing and creating the
website.
